Words and Fruit Reveal Treasure

John

Matthew 12:33-37  Jesus continues his discourse with the Pharisees who attributed his healing power to Satan.  He uses two metaphors, treasure and fruit, to highlight it is what is in the heart of a person and how that affects their behavior and action.  He then says that we will give an accounting for every careless word we speak.  "Careless" may be better translated as barren or unproductive.

It comes down to this - we cannot change what is in our hearts and thus change our behavior, action, and words.  Only the Holy Spirit can make that change and only if He indwells us because we have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Only heavenly treasure produces heavenly actions and leads to heavenly words.
